If Man Plans and God Laughs, I’m Sure Keeping God Entertained

As I said in my last blog, my surgery at long-last is scheduled for July 17.

God Laughed.

I received a call from the plastic surgeon’s office last week.  Due to a scheduling conflict, he needs to reschedule my surgery.  Would August 1 work?

Would August 1 work?  Sure.  I’ll just call my sister in law, who is driving me to and from the hospital, and ask her to reschedule her time off so she can take me. 

But SURE, August 1 works.

I’ll just call my friend who had blocked off several days to stay with me when I come home from the hospital, and ask if she’s available 2 weeks later.

But SURE, August 1 works.

I’ll just let my boss know that the time off I put in for from mid-July to mid-August is now all of August.

But SURE, August 1 works.

I’ll just let my kids know—oh wait, 2 of them scheduled their vacations for the week of August 1, on the assumption that I’d be well past my surgery by then.

But SURE, August 1 works.

Which means I now have to call my kennel and board the dogs for a week, since my son won’t be home to stay with them.

But SURE, August 1 works. 

I have my pre-op testing all scheduled, which has to be within 30 days of the surgery.  Oops.  No longer within that window.  Need to reschedule that too.

But SURE, August 1 works. 

I’ve been mentally preparing for July 17 for months now.  It’s only 2 weeks, I know, but I’m so ready to put this behind me.

SURE, August 1 works.

Everyone who said they would be around July 17 and afterwards, I hope many of you will still be able to help in August.  But of course I understand if you can’t.

I’m working on a google doc to have a list together of people I can call on during my recovery.  Here’s the link:

There are different sheets within the doc for meals, dog walking, shopping/errands/driving, and general assistance.  I’ve also created a sheet for things I believe I will need.  I’m sure this list will grow. 

If you want to help, please take a look at the sheet and add your name.  If there is something you can lend me that you think might come in handy, add that to the list as well.

I have my pre-op consent appointments later this month.  I’m sure I’ll have a lot more to share after they occur.

Maybe God can laugh at someone else for once?
