This is a first—I’m writing from a hospital bed!
Since so many of you have been checking in, I thought I’d give a brief status update. I got into surgery at about 7:00 last night. In general the surgeon was pleased with what he saw. (I haven’t spoken to him yet; this is based on what he told Abby.). The infection has cleared up which meant he was able to attach a wound vac. More on that later but it should help with healing. It could only be used if there was no infection so he couldn’t guarantee I could get one until he got into the OR.
I was admitted to the hospital because the wound vac means changes to my home care. The surgical staff needs time to arrange with the visiting nurse the proper care and schedule. I was not admitted because of any other medical reason, and I’m not in any pain. However, I’m hungry! It’s now early Wednesday and I haven’t eaten since dinner Monday. The nurse would only give me a liquid diet post op, but said I should be able to get a full breakfast this morning.
Thank you all for your care, concern, texts, messages, etc. The nurse asked me if I have enough support at home and I was able to assure her I did, thanks to my village! More soon.
Sending love
