Yesterday I attended the unveiling of my friend Dana. Dana died last year of metastatic breast cancer. She was 51.
At the unveiling I introduced myself to her heartbroken parents. I mentioned that I had just learned of my BRCA status and I often thought of Dana as I processed the information I had received. Dana’s father shared with me that Dana was BRCA positive, through his family. Another cousin standing nearby overheard and came over. “Welcome to the BRCA family,” she said. She had also learned about her mutation very late in life.
Dana, I think of you often. The world is a sadder place because you are not in it.

Look for a new blog entry later this week.
